A beautiful hike at Chinns Lake

Chinns Lake is beautiful! There is a 4WD road into the lake, which has a lot of beautiful dispersed campsites all around the edge of the lake. The road isn't too bad, you can do it easily in a higher clearance vehicle, or veeerryy slowly in a regular car.

The beginning of the road in, you see the mountains up ahead.

The road gets a bit rougher as you turn the corner at the bottom of the lake. The road goes all the around to the top of the lake, but we decided to park and hike around it instead.

At the top end of the lake, you are up on a berm and can look down on the entire lake.

Behind you, on the other side of the berm is this small pond/lake. It looks like it's really a snow-melt puddle.

You may have noticed that the rocks in the previous pictures look reddish. That's actually how they look. Many of the rocks are pinkish in color. It's really pretty. Here is a giant pink tinted boulder.

After you cross the berm, there is a trail leading up away from Chinns Lake.

You hike through the trees and scattered boulders and come up on a plateau...

With a ring of mountain tops surrounding one side...

And another lake...

The area up there was beautiful, well worth the hike up. It's a short hike, maybe 30 minutes up. You can explore the area, which has streams, flowers, boulders and the small lake.

And, the return trail back down.

This was such a pretty place, we wish we could get our RV in on that rough road to camp by the lake!
